Why do I document?

I was good friends with the head chef of a bakery in Ottawa. This bakery was an oasis; giving me a safe space when I needed to get away from work.

Sadly, he announced he would close the bakery and in the lead up to his last day, I realized I had no tangible record of its existence. I desperately wanted to document the bakery for my own sake but never got the chance. Even now, I still feel a twinge of regret when I drive by the location.

I document to ensure that the legacy of a person or persons is preserved for the future. Sometimes, it's just pictures. There might be times when I might have to add words. In either case, I want to ensure that a record is kept somewhere, especially in this fast paced world of ours where things just disappear.

Nagi Sushi

Six months after its closure, the former sushi itamae of C'est Japon à Suisha, Moriyuki Hiroha, opens his own sushi restaurant in Ottawa.

Classic Tetris World Championship 2022

The Classic Tetris World Championship (CTWC) was held at the Portland Convention Center in October 2022 after a two year hiatus from in-person events due to COVID. Having seen the CTWC 2018 Finals, I thought I'd be documenting familiar faces but in 4 short years, the Classic Tetris community had undergone drastic changes and found themselves in a brand new era.

From Birth to Butcher

After seeing a protest in Italy against the treatment of caged chickens, I set out to document the journey through which farm animals become food.

The Family Farm

With my father-in-law and his sister being the last generation of farmers in the family, I am rushing to document its history before it passes out of our hands.
